Aus der Deutsch-Amerikanische Partnerschaft genealogischer Vereine ist nun die Planung einer internationalen Konferenz gestartet. Die Konferenz ist für das Wochenende 28.-29. Juli 2017 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA geplant.

International Germanic genealogy conference set for July 2017 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Save the dates July 28-29, 2017, for the first international conference organized by the German-American Genealogical Partnership.
Our society has joined this new and growing international Partnership of Germanic societies across America and Europe. Our members receive a special Partnership discount off the regular conference rate. Registration for the conference, to be held in Minneapolis, Minn., opens in January 2017.
The conference theme — “Connections: International. Cultural. Personal.” — will shape presentations and personal opportunities for both Germanic genealogy professionals and individual hobbyists.
A block of rooms has been reserved for conference attendees at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest Hotel. You will be able to book rooms at a special rate beginning in August. A special reservation phone number and Marriott link will be available. Watch for more information.
The German-American Genealogical Partnership was begun last year by genealogical society leaders in America, Germany and other countries. Their purpose is to expand cooperation among societies nationally and internationally for the benefit of their individual members. The 2017 international conference is one of several major Partnership initiatives. Hosting the 2017 Partnership conference is the Minnesota-based Germanic Genealogy Society.

Die DAGV (Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft genealogischer Verbände e. V.) hat anlässlich des German-American Day eine Sonderseite auf ihrer Webseite eingerichtet, auf der man zum einen amerikanischen Forschern und anderen Auswanderergruppen Informationen, Links oder auch Kontakt zu den zahlreichen genealogischen Vereinen in Deutschland bietet.
Die deutschen Auswanderer stellen eine der größten Gruppen von Emigranten der USA dar und das Interesse an Familienforschung steigt kontinuierlich an. Auch wenn schon einige Informationen vorhanden sind, können wir uns wünschen das diese Seite angenommen wird und entsprechend mit weiteren hilfreichen Quellen fortgeführt wird.
In 2014 the DAGV celebrates its 65th anniversary and because of that the member assembly has declared 2014 to be „year of genealogy (DAGV)“ in which we want to go new ways of genealogical research.
Today is the German-American Day remembering the first German settlers in the later USA on October 6, 1683. 300 years later in 1983 President Ronald Reagan declared this date to become the German-American Day in the U.S. Following the historical path and also in further development of the Declaration of Salt Lake City by the DAGV and the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) in the US on March 22, 2013 we as German umbrella organisation present this site for intensify the contact not only between the our two but between all genealogical societies and researchers on genealogy in both of our countries dealing with people that are interested in that special topic.
We are supporting contacts to make researching more easy on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean: for the one who wants to find his ancestors coming from Germany mostly by leaving the ports of Hamburg or Bremerhaven, for the other one who wants to find offspring of former immigrants to America in today. Both could lead to a vivid connection in present families.
On our website you can get the addresses and websites of our 67 single member organisations under the umbrella of the DAGV. We also want to help you find literature, databases etc. After visting the RootsTech in Salt Lake City in 2013 and the FGS National Conference in San Antonio 2014 we think that on the field of German-American genealogy there is a big potential for all our genealogical socities and individuals. More personal contact means more understanding, more exchange brings bigger genealogical results. We are not only sharing a common history on our ancestry but we can also build up bridges in the common future. To say it in the words of Carl Schurz (1829-1906), former U.S. Secretary of State under President Abraham Lincoln, we should „adapt the best parts of the American spirit and meld these with the best parts of the German spirit.“
This site is to be actualized whenever there are news to report about. It is our aim as German genealogists to trace back the footsteps of sons and daughters of our historical families who went to other countries (Germans worldwide). To follow German-American roots is a first important step. We are willing and ready to build up more effective tools like databases etc. to follow our aims. We are searching for support and contacts in every single direction from wherever they might come. Please help us to present more information on this side!
May genealogy open more family ties and friendship between our people and peoples!
